Hi, my name is Pete Tomchak. I am preparing to serve a short-term mission in Iquitos, Peru, along with several others from Journey Church. We will be going down in late June, returning early July of this year.
I have valued the principle of supporting missionaries in the field for many years, but I have never felt the call to go on a mission. My wife, Tanda, went to Iquitos in 2023 for her first mission trip, and the transformation I have seen in her as a result has been amazing. Then, late in 2023, my pastor made a comment in a sermon that touched me deeply. The comment was that, in his opinion, every Christian should serve on at least one short-term mission trip in a foreign country. After prayer and consideration, I decided to partner with Journey Church on this trip to Peru. This will be my first mission trip, and I am excited to see how God uses me to impact the world.
God has gifted me with many skills and abilities in my life. I have also been afforded the opportunity to travel the world through military service, and I do speak a bit of Spanish. I am a Chemical Engineer by education. I also work well with my hands, both for construction and mechanical and electrical areas. I help with Prayer teams at church as well as volunteer in KidMin to teach K-2 kids. It is unclear to me if or how these gifts will be utilized. That is OK because God knows. His leading for me is to go. Like the great commission, go into all the world and show His love and to make disciples in all nations.
All forms of support are welcomed and appreciated. I especially ask for prayer that He may use me mightily in Iquitos. Thank you in advance for partnering with me on this mission.
